SNI

Indonesian National Standards (SNI), are standards that apply nationally in Indonesia. SNI is formulated by a technical committee and determined by the National Standardization Body (BSN). BSN is a Non-Ministerial Government Institution which is under and responsible to the President. BSN has a role in carrying out government tasks in the field of standardization and conformity assessment in accordance with statutory provisions.

SNI was prepared with the aim of creating a common understanding of the terms and definitions of a food product, standardizing the naming or designation of food products and preparing references/guidelines for terms and definitions in the context of standardizing and certifying the production of a food product.

SNI is voluntary, but in the case that SNI is related to the interests of safety, security, public health or preservation of environmental functions and/or economic considerations, technical agencies can compulsorily enforce some or all of the technical specifications and/or parameters in SNI.
