Lloyd Register Group Limited (LR) is a Classification Society technical and business and maritime services organization, wholly owned by the Lloyd Register Foundation, a UK charity dedicated to Research and Education in Science and Engineering. The organization goes back to 1760. Its goal is to improve the Safety of life, property and the environment, by assisting clients (including by Validation, Certification and Accreditation) to ensure the Quality of Building Construction, and the operation of critical infrastructure. Historically, as Lloyd’s Register of Shipping, it is a SPECIFIC Maritime Organization. During the late 20th century, it diversified into other industries including oil and gas, industrial processes, nuclear, and railroads.

Through its 100% subsidiary Lloyd Register Quality Assurance Ltd (LRQA), it is therefore a major vendor of Independent Assessment Services, Including ISO9001, ISO14001 and OSHAS18001 Quality Certification System Management. Lloyd Register is affiliated with Lloyd’s of London. In June 2012, the Organization converted from an Industrial and Provident society to a company limited by shares, named Lloyd Register Group Limited, with New Lloyd Register as the sole shareholder. At the same time, the organization gifted the Foundation a substantial portfolio of bonds and equity to help with its charitable purposes and it will benefit from continued funding from the group’s operating arm, Lloyd Register Group Limited.
